What's in a name?
First Monica left on all-too-convenient indefinite personal leave, and now she is taking the fifth with respect to any testimony to Congress.

I don't think that you can dodge a subpoena with the Fifth Amendment. The committee should make her sit there and decline to answer every one of their questions, just to generate the proper record of what she could have told them--but wouldn't, for fear of putting herself in jail.

Even if she takes the Fifth on all the questions, she still has to show up and do so in person. Otherwise its a contempt of Congress charge.

Her lawyer's charge that the committee was "setting a perjury trap" for her is about as specious a line of bravo sierra as has come from a lawyer in some time. She probably shouldn't have opened her mouth the first time, and anyway, if the committee feels that she's truthful this time, the previous statements would probably be ignored.

As far as Libby goes, he fell on his sword for the VP. That's not relevant to this hearing -- or, at least shouldn't be.

Oh godz, I just hope Congress doesn't start offering immunity to all and sundry like during the Iran-Contra hearings. Of course, the Dems had a dog - a Mena one :) - in that particular hunt that they don't in this one.

Some interesting analysis on her ability/inability to plead the 5th:
